What ink for HP 5520? Key features and applications
This category is dedicated to ink cartridges for HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One (also searched as HP 5520, CX042A or related models such as HP Photosmart 5510 B111). The printer uses the well-known HP 364 / HP 364 XL system: separate cartridges for Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, plus an optional Photo Black cartridge for better photo depth.
With properly selected cartridges, you can comfortably print:
sharp black text for invoices, homework and office documents,
colour charts and presentations with consistent tones,
photos with smoother gradients (especially when using the Photo cartridge),
everyday pages at an economical cost per print—particularly with XL capacity.
If you print frequently, we recommend HP 364 XL ink for HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One—higher capacity usually means fewer replacements and better value over time.

Original OEM Printhead HP CN643A (CN643A) – for cases where print quality issues come from the printhead, not the cartridge.
How to choose the right cartridge: Black, CMYK, Photo and XL capacity
When picking ink for HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One, start with how you print:
Mostly documents: choose Black (ideally XL), e.g. CB316EE or CN684EE versions.
Colour mixed use: add Cyan CB323EE, Magenta CB324EE, Yellow CB325EE—or go straight for a CMYK multipack.
Photos: consider the Photo cartridge CB322EE (especially helpful for richer dark tones).
Convenience and savings: XL cartridges generally last longer and reduce the frequency of replacements.
Also match the cartridge class to your expectations. Original OEM ink for HP 5520 is often chosen for brand consistency and predictable results. Compatible ink for HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One is ideal if you want excellent print quality and a better price per page—without giving up reliability.
Common HP Photosmart 5520 printing issues – and what usually fixes them
Users of the HP 5520 family most often report issues that are easy to solve with the right consumables and a little maintenance:
Faded prints or missing colours: a specific colour cartridge may be empty, or the nozzles may need a cleaning cycle.
Streaks on photos or colour banding: try a nozzle/printhead cleaning and check whether the Photo cartridge is installed and working correctly.
Printer not recognising a cartridge: reseat the cartridge, clean the contacts gently, and make sure you’ve chosen the correct HP 364 / 364 XL code.
Persistent quality problems despite new ink: the issue may be in the printhead—then the Original OEM Printhead HP CN643A can be the right solution.
