How to choose the right ink for HP 5020

If you’re wondering which ink cartridge for printer HP ENVY 5020 to pick, we recommend a simple approach:

• Print mostly text? Choose Black, ideally XL for better efficiency.
• Print homework, graphics and photos? Add Colour (tri‑colour) or choose a multipack.
• Print regularly? XL cartridges reduce the number of changes and help keep printing costs predictable.
• Print occasionally? Standard capacity can be sufficient, especially if you don’t want to stock spare cartridges for too long.

Original OEM vs Compatible – practical differences (and what we recommend)

Many customers ask us whether compatible ink is “safe” and whether it prints as well as OEM. In our store, we focus on proven solutions—our compatible ink cartridges for HP ENVY 5020 are built to deliver results comparable to originals in everyday printing. Here’s how the two options compare:

• Original OEM ink cartridges – made by the printer manufacturer, a great choice if you want to stay with OEM supply.
• Compatible ink cartridges – a cost-effective alternative with very good print quality; ideal if you want to lower the cost per page without compromising on clarity and colour.

Whichever you choose, the key is selecting the correct model (e.g., HP 304 or HP 304 XL) and the right colour variant. If you print a lot, compatible XL cartridges are often the smartest way to keep your HP ENVY 5020 running affordably.

Common HP ENVY 5020 ink issues – and how to avoid them

To help you print without interruptions, here are a few typical issues we see with the HP ENVY 5000 series and how to handle them:

• Printer doesn’t recognise the cartridge – remove and reinsert the cartridge, check protective seals were removed, and ensure it clicks into place.
• Faded prints or streaks – run the printer’s cleaning/alignment routine; replace the cartridge if it’s low or dried out.
• Colour prints look “off” – tri‑colour cartridges can run out of one colour first; replacing the colour cartridge usually restores proper balance.
• Ink runs out too quickly – consider switching to XL (e.g., 304 XL) and use draft mode for internal documents.
