Original OEM vs Compatible ink for Brother MFC-J5740DW – how to choose

Many customers ask us which ink for Brother MFC-J5740DW is “the best”. The right answer depends on your printing style and budget:

• Original OEM Brother LC-422 / LC-422 XL – ideal when you want factory-standard consistency, predictable color behavior and maximum peace of mind for business documents.
• Compatible LC-422 / LC-422 XL – a smart alternative when you want to reduce printing costs without sacrificing quality. Our compatible cartridges offered at DrTusz.pl are as good as the originals for everyday office use and home-office printing, delivering clear text and stable colors at a more attractive price.
• XL vs standard capacity – if you print often (e.g., reports, invoices, duplex sets), the LC-422 XL option usually delivers the best cost per page and fewer cartridge changes.

Tip: if your black runs out faster than colors (very common in this model), consider pairing an LC-422 XL BK with standard or XL colors based on how often you print in color.

Common printing issues on MFC-J5740DW and how supplies can help

The Brother MFC-J5740DW is built for productivity, but intensive use can reveal typical inkjet challenges. If you notice any of the following, the right cartridge choice and maintenance products can make a big difference:

• Streaks or missing lines – often caused by partially clogged nozzles; we recommend running the printer’s cleaning cycle and, if needed, using Specialistic Fluid for Cleaning Heads Brother 250 ml.
• Faded colors or uneven fills – check if a cartridge is nearly empty, seated incorrectly, or has been stored too long.
• Frequent cartridge replacement – switch to LC-422 XL cartridges for higher efficiency, especially for black.
• Color imbalance – replacing a single depleted color (instead of a whole set) helps keep output consistent and avoids wasting ink.

If you’re unsure whether to pick LC-422 or LC-422 XL, or whether Compatible or Original OEM is better for your documents, we’re here to help you match the best option to your print volume.
